With the exemption of the vast majority of blue blur abilities during Act 2, there are no weapon upgrades. However, the three main items of the game all have an alternate blue version obtained by reaching the Expert difficulty. The Hammer is acquired by beating the Forest in Act 1, Issue #5 in Expert mode. The Bomb is acquired by beating the Castle in Act 2, Issue #3 in Expert mode and the Icepick is obtained by beating the Ice Cap in Act 2, Issue #6 in Expert mode. However, the blue hammer, bomb and icepick do not perform any purpose in the game, but different to the other blue versions the color scheme remains the same and there are no alternate artwork options.

The title screen of Sonic 3 has Sonic dancing in a star field. It is possible to stop the music and replay the title sequence at any point.
