Tomb Raider's final chapter was originally slated to arrive in 2018, but was pushed back for a final polish. When Square Enix finally released Shadow of the Tomb Raider on 14 September 2018, the delay had only slightly affected its quality, which wasn't saying a lot compared to the underwhelming Catherine.

Despite the rebooted story and landscape, Shadow of the Tomb Raider's graphics are remarkable considering its age: the game is arguably graphically impressive despite the constant, unceasing competition of hardware. Square Enix's revamped Lara is more beautiful than ever in Shadow's more stressful, survival-heavy environments. They can be grittier as well, thanks to the addition of the Hoyt family's light reflects, rain-soaked VATS (Aim-Through-the-Scope) aiming system and flashlight that doubles as a gatling gun.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an Uncharted-style adventure that needs multiple attempts to unravel, but it's a welcome throwback to Lara's roots.
